Join Curator Richard Candee to learn how the Athenaeum became what it is today as he focuses on key elements from his exhibit “Treasures of the Athenaeum Part IV: Renewal, Growth, and a Public Research Library, 1980 – 2017.”
Richard M. Candee is Professor Emeritus of American and New England Studies at Boston University, where he directed the Preservation Studies Program for nearly 30 years. He has published nearly a hundred articles, essays, and reviews as well as four books specifically about Portsmouth. He has been Chairman of the Warner House Association, President of the Portsmouth Athenaeum and President of the Portsmouth Historical Society.
The gallery talk will be held in the third-floor Randall Gallery at 11 a.m. Space is limited so please call 603-431-2538 to reserve your spot.
