Historical Note
Badger Farms’ Creameries was a manufacturer of dairy products. They sold milk, cream, and Badger Farms ice cream throughout the Portsmouth area. First established in 1877, the company was incorporated in 1927 in Kittery with Daniel W. Badger as founder and treasurer. After Daniel Badger died in 1952, Daniel B. Tarbell became president. Main offices were at 160-192 Bow Street in Portsmouth, with manufacturing plants in Portsmouth and Newburyport and a grain warehouse in Greenland. In the 1960s the company purchased Strafford Farms Dairy, Inc., and created Badger Milk Transport Company. In 1966 the name was changed to Danco. The company went out of business about 1970.
