Scope and Content
Collection consists of 6 volumes of Allied Theater Company account books dating from 1916 to 1919. The books include records of expenses for the four theaters, including payroll, rent, fees paid to movie companies, etc. The books are often repetetive one to the next, however organized in different formats (some as day books of expenses and others in the form of balance sheets).
Historical Note
Allied Theaters included the Colonial Theater (Congress Street, later Eagle Photo Supply), Olympia Theater (Vaughn Street), Portsmouth Theater (Chestnut Street, currently the Music Hall), and Scenic Temple (High Street). The officers of the Company were John H. Bartlett (President), Albert Bishop (Vice President), Willis N. Rugg (Treasurer), Volney C. Badger (Clerk) and William P. Gray (Director).
