Historical Note
The Portsmouth Arts and Historical Collaborative was formed in 1993 with the mission of promoting Portsmouth as a cultural destination. Its twelve member organizations were all not-for-profit 501c3 and were represented by their CEOs. These included The Music Hall, Strawbery Banke Museum, Pro Portsmouth, The Children’s Museum, Prescott Park Arts Festival, Seacoast Repertory Theatre, The Player’s Ring, Pontine Theatre, Ballet New England, The Warner House Association, the Moffatt-Ladd House and Garden, and Historic Associates, Inc. (Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities).

The main idea behind the collaborative was to entice tourists to come to Portsmouth and the seacoast and capture their interest in the arts and culture once they were here. The kiosk in Market Square was an initiative that came from the PAHC as well as monthly calendar listings of arts and cultural events in the Portsmouth Herald. Disappointingly, five years after the collaborative was formed, the minutes reveal that some of the same things were being mooted that were brought up in its early days.
