 join us for an afternoon of rich musical storytelling with Jeff Warner\, o
 ne of the nation’s foremost interpreters of traditional American folk mu
 sic.\n\nPerforming in the Shaw Research Library at the Portsmouth Athenaeu
 m on Sunday\, April 6\, at 3:00 p.m.\, this special event is open to membe
 rs and friends.\n\nJeff’s performances connect 21st-century audiences to
  the lives and artistry of 19th-century Americans\, weaving together songs
  from lumber camps\, fishing villages\, and mountain communities. Accompan
 ying himself on concertina\, banjo\, guitar\, and traditional pocket instr
 uments\, Jeff brings history to life through music\, humor\, and storytell
 ing. This performance focuses on the following:\n\nRange the Wild Woods Ov
 er: Loggers' Songs and Stories\n\nLoggers at the turn of the twentieth cen
 tury cut the timber that built and warmed our houses and provided the ties
  for America's ever-expanding railroads. Timber established Portsmouth\, P
 ortland and Bangor as important ports\, sending New England lumber around 
 the world. Folklorist Jeff Warner relates the songs and stories of the peo
 ple who worked the wintry woods\, showing their humor and their grit\, and
  giving us a glimpse into everyday life in long ago lumber camps.\n\nA lon
 gtime Portsmouth resident Jeff has performed worldwide\, from folk clubs i
 n the UK to Smithsonian Institution tours. His deep knowledge\, warm prese
 nce\, and engaging style ensure that audiences leave with not only great m
