SUMMARY:2026 Current Event Series presents "PFAS Contamination at Pease: A 
 Community Perspective"
DESCRIPTION:Andrea Amico is a nationally recognized PFAS advocate and co‑
 founder of the Testing for Pease community action group\, where she has le
 d efforts since 2014 to raise awareness\, secure health studies\, and adva
 nce policy change after her family was impacted by PFAS contaminated drink
 ing water at the former Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire. Her advocac
 y has helped achieve PFAS blood testing\, multiple health studies\, drinki
 ng water regulations\, and congressional attention\, including testimony b
 efore the U.S. Senate\, a TEDx talk\, and presentations to the CDC and Nat
 ional Academies of Science. She is also a co‑founder of the National PFA
 S Contamination Coalition\, helped organize the first National PFAS Confer
 ences\, and serves in multiple community leadership roles.\n\nHonored as U
 SA Today’s New Hampshire Woman of the Year in 2025 for advocacy work on 
 PFAS\, Andrea also holds a master’s degree in occupational therapy and w
 orks full time in neurological rehabilitation while raising three children
  with her husband in Portsmouth\, NH. Andrea will speak about her unexpect
 ed journey as a community leader on PFAS contamination and how her work ha
 s inspired local\, state\, federal\, and global change. She will also prov
 ide education on what PFAS are\, where they are found\, why we are concern
 ed\, and what we can do to address PFAS contamination.\nFor the 2026 Curre
 nt Event Series\, each program begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Shaw Research Li
 brary (unless otherwise noted). Reservations for each program are required
  as seating is limited. If unable to keep a reservation\, please call agai
 n to release the seat for someone else. Attendance at programs is free for
  Athenæum Proprietors\, Subscribers and Friends. Guests and members of th
 e public are welcome to attend the entire series by becoming a Friend of t
 he Athenæum for as little as $25 per year\, payable at the door. Admissio
 n to an individual program is $15.\nThis program will be recorded and shar
