Although Knox had prominence by the 1910s, today she is little known even locally. Recapturing her early years has been especially challenging. The family home was at 93 Union Street, Portsmouth. Her father was a highly respected First Clerk to the Commandant at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and her grandfather had been overseer of the Portsmouth Hosiery Factory.
