Please Help Support the Athenæum
The mission of the Athenæum is supported primarily through the generosity of its members and friends. The Proprietors and Subscribers pay an annual assessment on their membership shares to defray the operating costs of the organization. The assessment is set by the Board of Directors each year as it prepares the annual budget. Proprietors and Subscribers enjoy full library privileges.
Friends of the Athenæum donate amounts of their own choosing to support the work of the library and receive the quarterly newsletter and invitations to the exhibits, concerts, and other special events. Becoming a Friend demonstrates real support for the mission and programs of the Athenæum without the responsibilities and commitments of Proprietorship.
Contributions toward the endowment provide the greatest impact to assuring the long-term sustainability of the Athenæum. The Athenæum's modest endowment provides ongoing support for the organization and its mission-related programs. Gifts to grow the endowment foster growth and future vitality for our two-centuries-old library. The Nathaniel Adams Legacy Society, named for the first President of the Athenæum, honors those who have included the Athenæum in their estate planning. Contributions by bequest, gift annuity, life insurance, IRA, or Charitable Remainder Trust demonstrate that the stimulating and collegial atmosphere of the Athenæum have had an impact on your life.
